Name: David Michael Redmond
Age: Nineteen
Date of Birth: October 2
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Group: AHAA student, music performance- guitar
Appearance:
-Facial features:
His eyes are most likely his most admirable trait. They are set deep in his skull and are stereotypical to those with 'dark' features. They glow a misty blue with green undertones, and though he tries to resist it, they never fail to express the emotions that his words try to conceal. David’s eyelashes are dark and at certain times, it appears as though he is wearing eyeliner, though he would never be caught dead doing such a thing.
David has a small scar on the left side of his upper lip from a time when his father busted it open during a violent fight when he was fifteen. He also has two severe burns on his right arm from when he tried to use lighters to give himself smileys when he was twelve.
-Body:
Standing at six foot one and one hundred ninety-four pounds, David is tall. He is tall and slender, but not too slender. Muscle covers his abdomen, arms and chest, but not in a bulging way. More so to accent the natural lines and curves of his long torso and even longer legs. David is not particularly athletic, but he does like to work out. It not only helps his keep his body fit, but it provides an outlet for the anger that he holds in.
David keeps his chocolate brown hair short and depending on how he feels when he wakes up, he will sometimes sport small amounts of facial hair. Being full Irish, his jaw line reflects those of his ancestors with dominance and strength and allows a smooth connection between his eyes and his prolific lips. David is overall a very attractive man.
-Clothing:
When it comes to clothing, David keeps it casual. He likes wearing ties at times, but is for the most part a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. He likes to be comfortable, too. He also hates wearing shoes and will walk barefoot ninety-nine percent of the time. Style and fashion have never been something David has ever really cared much for, but he does mind how people view him and tries to always look his best in his most comfortable outfits. After all, first impressions really are important.
Personality:
Laid back
David doesn't really ever take much of anything too seriously. He rarely gets upset with people and usually just brushes things off. In his mind, there are very few occasions that deserve to truly make a person upset and even more than that, there are very few people in his life that would ever have enough power over him to do so. David doesn't like confrontation and would much rather turn everything into a joke rather than make it serious. He is playful and enjoys just living life worry free. How can you truly live if you can’t have fun?
Tempered
Though David generally just brushes things off, there are times when people do get under his skin and when that happens, you better start praying. David grew up around violence and he knows it all too well. When you cross him, you had better be prepared to deal with him. He is very fond of payback and though few people in his life would ever have the opportunity to experience his true anger, it was not something that is encouraged.
Sarcastic
David is sarcastic and there is a wit about him that is borderline inebriating. Growing up, he used his wit as a buffer between his hopes and the reality of life. He is always quick witted and most often will have an immediate comeback for almost everything. David likes to laugh, even at himself, and will almost always laugh at himself after making a sarcastic comment. This is one of the traits that people love most about him.
Emotionally reserved
David’s childhood had taught him to hide his emotions and therefore, it is rare for him to let people in. This is something that ruins a lot of his relationships with people. Being the fun loving, playful, sarcastic fool that he is, it is difficult for him to get emotionally close with anyone. David is pretty good at hiding his detachment by giving away small, insignificant aspects of himself to other people which at times make them feel like they are seeing the real him, rather than the him that he wants them to see.
Party animal
David also loves to party. He can hold his liquor better than anyone else he knows and will challenge others frequently. He enjoys the shameless flirting and emotionless hook-ups that come with parties as well as the opportunities they provide to just let loose and be carefree.
Detached
Because David is so detached to people, he has a hard time even believing in successful relationships, let alone actually having one. Yes, David likes women and women like David, but he just can't handle being that emotionally open with another person. He never has a hard time finding a girlfriend, but keeping them to stay once they uncovered all the surface material is the hard part.
History:
For as long as David could remember, his family has always been fighting. His parents would argue about what was for dinner, who would go to the grocery store, how to pay the bills, who was going to make their bed, who was going to take David to school, how they couldn’t afford a new car and more than anything else, how much having a children ruined their lives.
Jennifer, David’s mother, was always the submissive one in their household. She would bend to any rule or restriction that her husband set. This was partially because she didn’t want to argue, and partially to reduce the amount of beatings for both her, her daughter Nicole, and for David. Doug, David’s father, would quite frequently go to work painting houses and come home angry, only to take it out on his wife and children.
When David was seven and his sister was nine, they went to visit their father’s father, who up until that point had never had a relationship with either David or Nicole. David immediately didn’t like the old man, while Nicole seemed to be drawn to his mysterious ways. The third night of their five day stay, David awoke, in the middle of the night, to a dark figure leaning over his bed. He heard the instructions and out of innocent, seven-year-old fear, he complied. That was the night he completely turned off the switch to intimacy with another being.
Five years later, when Nicole was fourteen, she confided in their mother that she had been molested on multiple occasions by their grandfather. Once Doug found out, he changed. He couldn’t stand the thought of someone hurting his daughter and vowed never to lay a hand on anyone in his family ever again. Though David was thankful, he still would never tell what he experienced that night at his grandfathers.
After his father’s ‘change’, David started experimenting with alcohol and drugs. He tried pot, acid, mushrooms, ecstasy, and even dipped into a small amount of heroin. Though his family life had gotten better, at least physically, the emotional distance between him and is parents only grew more and more. By the time David turned sixteen, his never-before-religious parents became Christians. They didn’t agree with the choices David made and therefore, in an attempt to ‘save him’, ended up pushing him away even more. On his eighteenth birthday, he left Maine and move as far away as he could possibly imagine, ending up in California.
Roleplay sample:
David noted Renee’s blush and smiled. The way her cherry red blood burned cheeks complimented her pale porcelain skin was beyond beautiful, it was distracting. David had always felt even more embarrassed when he blushed in front of people, but as he stood there watching the red cover her cheeks, all he could think of was how beautiful she looked. It was almost as if the color was revealing even more of her soft, human side and less of the cold hardness that she tried to portray. David felt fortunate to be witnessing this, as far as he could assume, rare sight.
When Renee pulled away, David was instantly filled with guilt. What had he done this time? Not even an hour ago he had upset Renee to the point of hyperventilating and now she was crying? There must be something seriously wrong with him and as he stood there, debating his option to just leave her be, he felt drawn to her and didn’t want to leave. Right as David stepped forward and reached for Renee, her body sank to the sandy floor and David followed.
As she began to speak, David felt a small wave of relief wash over him. She didn’t appear angry with him but rather…with herself? When she said she felt dead on the inside, David couldn’t help but silently agree. David had loss feeling when his body was used against him and since that evening, he had used his body as his barrier covering his heart. You could have his body to use however you would like, and in the process, he would shield the rest. Some people took this as fakeness but as much as he tried to open himself to others, he just couldn’t do it. He wouldn’t allow himself to be that vulnerable.
When David spotted her tears, he couldn’t help but wrap his arms around her shoulder and pull her into him. She was hurt and needed to be comforted. At her last comment, David chuckled. ”Renee, if you had no soul, you wouldn’t be able to cry.” He meant for the words to come out kindly and in a playful manner but as he spoke them, he felt the harsher undertone. ”I’m sorry.” He said, his voice softer. He only mean to lighten the mood.
Turning Renee to face him, he sighed. ”I think you’re scared.” He began, cautious with his words. David thought about how he felt when he tried to block emotions from others. ”I think you’re just afraid that if you open up to people, they’ll either reject who you are, or won’t be able to understand you.” He sighed, his arm rubbing her shoulder softly. ”We all just want to fit in and be accepted by others, but too often, we get lost in other’s expectations of us.” David’s eyes saddened as he thought about the wall he had built around his heart and how, as much as he wished someone would prove their worth of him, he feared it would never happen. Focusing his stare in her eyes, he forced a soft smile. ”I think you are perfect just the way you are and even if you don’t think you have a soul, what you’ve shown to me in just the last few minutes, proves to me that you do. You are stronger and have a bigger heart that most of the people that I know.” He smiled again, playfulness lighting his eyes as he winked at her. ”Your words give you away.”
